Design

“Tephra” is a significant toroidal structure, symbolic of volcanic craters and geological change. Its textured exterior, resembling volcanic stone, encases a spiraling core of LED lights that replicate flowing lava, offering a vivid depiction of the earth's molten heart.

Visible from a distance, the artwork is positioned to complement the region's topography, enhancing the horizon particularly at sunrise and sunset.

Materials and Sustainability

Constructed with durable long lasting metals and energy-efficient LEDs, "Tephra" underscores a dedication to sustainability through conscious construction choices and high recyclability.

Cultural and Community Engagement

“Tephra” stands not only as a sculptural wonder but also as a dynamic center for cultural engagement. It invites participation through features that allow visitors to interact with the artwork in ways that educate and illuminate Mount Gambier's volcanic history. Through these interactive experiences, the sculpture facilitates a deeper understanding of the local culture and integrates Aboriginal narratives, crafting a mosaic of stories that pay homage to the region's rich heritage.

Economic and Social Benefits

Projected to invigorate Mount Gambier, "Tephra" is set to enhance tourism, stimulate the economy, and serve as a communal hub for social and cultural enrichment, fostering unity and pride within the local populace.
