STUDIO JOHN FISH PRESENTS:
'Tephra'
Nestled in the geologically rich terrain of Mount Gambier, “Tephra” emerges as a monumental sculpture that embodies the city’s vibrant volcanic legacy. Conceived as a toroidal form, it mirrors the ancient craters, symbolizing the perpetual cycle of nature’s creation and destruction. The rugged exterior, a nod to volcanic stone, frames an inner spiral of LED lights that simulate the earth’s fiery core. This interplay of materials and light not only captivates the senses but also narrates the story of the land’s fiery origins.
“Tephra” is designed to be an icon, a meeting point, and a canvas for storytelling. It will be a nucleus for community gatherings and a draw for visitors, invigorating tourism and local commerce. The installation’s commitment to environmental sustainability is evident in its use of the recyclability of it's materials and energy-efficient lighting.
Strategically positioned to command views and engage with the natural landscape, “Tephra” is set to become an intrinsic part of Mount Gambier’s identity. It’s more than an artwork; it’s an experience and a community beacon that celebrates the spirit of the region, inviting onlookers to immerse themselves in the profound narrative of Mount Gambier's geological heritage.
